President George Bush has nominated Ben Bernanke to succeed Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve.

“I USED to think if there was reincarnation I wanted to come back as the president or the pope…but now I want to come back as the bond market. You can intimidate everybody.” So said James Carville, Bill Clinton's campaign manager. If he had thought about this a little bit harder, he might have wanted to come back as the chairman of America’s Federal Reserve—the man who puts the fear of God into the bond market. (Reuters)
