Hello I am new to this Forum and new to Norway. Currently living in SE Asia and would like to know some details about living in Norway for approx. 6 months. Would anyone be willing to provide me with some info about the following:Cost of renting temporary accommodation in Oslo for say 6 months;Are there serviced appartments and what do these cost per month;
What other options are there available?
What are the typical cost of renting a small sized car per month?
What would be my typical daily cost of living (breakfast, lunch, dinner, utility cost, etc.
Would very much appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Regards, Mark Last edited by Mark; 16-06-2009 at 03:03. |

Hi Mark,
You have the full range in Norway. Expect to pay from NOK 9000-20 000 for a flat per month. To rent a car is expensive. Living cost too. But, Norwegians find ways around the high cost. You can use public transportation. You can eat at home. There are options. Hotels are coming down in price, ask around for long term rates. Why Norway? Let us know. Good luck.

I just rented a car... I had to pay a fee of 50 000 NOK upfront, then around 1000 NOK per month. I will have the car for 3 years.
BTW: I don't think you will need a car in Oslo, there are several ways you can travel without a car. Public transport is as Lysglimt says. |

Thank you all for your feedback and useful comments.
I have budgetted myself and will receive approx. 12kNOK for furnished accommodation (Tananger) and NOK300 per day for general cost of living. Should be okay, shouldn't it?

Sounds very frugal. This will give you a living standard of a student living away from home awaiting graduation and future income. The 12k is per month, right? and the 12k and the 300 NOK per day is in addition to your regular remuneration, right? If not, then you are facing 12k + 9k = 21k total per month and it is not possible to survive in Norway on that, not even in Tananger. I'd say you need twice that in total. Pray tell, _why_ are you moving to Norway? Tananger is an oil hub, but that's all. |
